Q: Is beCyCle only for students?
A: Nope. beCyCle is a community workshop and is open to anyone. While we are partly funded by the University of Aberdeen, many of our volunteers are not students. Anyone can come and use the workshop, the tools and the parts, borrow a bike or get involved.

Q: Are you open over the summer/holidays?
A:
Yes. Term time or no term time, unless advertised otherwise on our website, we’re around.

Q: Can I just come to the workshop?
A: Yes, just come along. We’re open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1-6pm, unless advertised otherwise on our website.

Q: Can I have a bike?
A: Yep. If we have bikes you can have one. But consider that sometimes available bikes might need some maintenance.

Q: How long can I keep the bike for?
A: As long as you want. We will ask you however to drop by after 4-6 month or so, to do some basic maintenance on the bike (oil, air, remove some rust, etc.)

Q: How much does it cost to borrow a bike?
A: Bikes are free! The deposits however, range at the moment from £40 to £70, depending on the bike.

Q: Do you want my unused bike/bikes? – even if it needs fixing?
A: YES! If it is not rusty beyond recognition, we’ll certainly take it. No matter how many bikes, just bring them on. That is what we do! Take old bikes, fix them and pass them on to someone to use. In some cases however, we might take the bike apart for spares or weld the frame into some funky bike.

Q: Do you want my bike parts?
A:
Certainly! Much in the spirit of MacGyver, the A-Team, Sheldon Brown and Co. we can make use of pretty much anything! Simply drop bikes and parts off at our workshop on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 1-6pm.

Q: Can I fix my own bike at your workshop?
A: Yes, of course. Use any tools and spare parts available. And someone will always be there to help. You really don’t need any prior experience in bike maintenance to get started. We have twelve year old kids come around and over seventy year old people who all manage just fine.

Q: Can you really fix anything on a bike?
A: Yes, we certainly can. We even build bikes from scratch. Our workshop is as good as any professional workshop and some of our volunteers work as bike mechanics in the shops in town.

Q: Do you sell bikes?
A: No we do not. However, we have a notice board where you can advertise a bike for sale.

Q: Can I swap my own bike for another?
A: No, we normally do not swap bikes, unless you have a really good reason.
