“Your bike is a political weapon to fight for a better world. Lay it down now and your cowardice will allow the capitalist status quo to continue. If you are content to sit back and watch as the motorists, public transportation enablers and pedestrians bring this nation to it’s knees then that is your prerogative, but don’t ask me to help you in your apathy.”

yes man sure we are doing politics…

  2. geekpie says:

Surely there’s nothing wrong with pedestrians and public transport enablers?

I think the argument – oddly – runs something like this: “It is a well known fact that recent increases in road-rage directly correlate with increases in bus-ridership. Is it any wonder? There’s definitely something unhealthy about being trapped in a metal box with all that negative energy.” (the Manifesto)

allow me to rephrase: “Your GARDEN-CABBAGE is a political weapon to fight for a better world. Lay it down now and your cowardice will allow the capitalist status quo to continue. If you are content to sit back and watch as the AGRICULTURALISTS, BIOTECHNOLOGY enablers and CAPITALISTS bring this nation to it’s knees then that is your prerogative, but don’t ask me to help you in your apathy.”

my point: I think such arguments can be made with anything about anything. Cabbages, bicycles and jeeps are not political. People are.

Personally, I do bikes because I like bikes. I have no primary political motivations or intensions eventhough I wouldn’t deny that there might be some political implications when I do bikes. But on Wednesdays I don’t really give a shit.

    — can someone explain to me how the “pedestrians bring this nation to it’s knees” ??

Mmmm… trying to blame capitalism for everything that’s wrong with the world from the former American president to too much sugar and fat in our diet. I’d rather just work with what we’ve got thank you. It’s always the problem when trying to empower people against forces much greater than ourselves – whether it’s the church, state or little green men from Mars. It’s a turn-off to the majority. Nelson Mandela was right (despite being an incorrect quote – actually Marianne Williamson), and I’m not going to allow myself to be caught up in semantics of what is and what isn’t political. If you want long lasting and satisfying change, start with yourself and those around your community – shine and be a role model to children and those around you. That’s why I joined Becycle.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
